OK, so the "we" is actually just me (for now), one little fish in a big pond.

With a background in graphic design, then architecture, and finally lighting design, I've spent my entire professional life in the visual arts.  Having a brilliant idea, or developing an amazing concept is one thing.  Conveying it to someone else (like you, the client) is another. 

What do you want to see? When do you want to see it?  Who will be there? What will happen there? How do you want it to feel?  Only you can tell me these things, so once we pin them down, that's when designing really begins.

Ensuring that the client understands the lighting concept is at the core of how I design.  This is even more important when you work in another country, where not only language is a factor, but the subtleties of culture can play a major role in the design relationship.

Communication is vital to make sure you don't feel like the lonely worm left out on the hook.  Creating a lighting concept that you've been part of every step of the way is the prime objective.  If you're not happy, I'm not either.
